Roxanne came to us from the City of Minneapolis, where she led strategic initiatives to strengthen funding for inclusive homeownership.
Greetings! I am Roxanne Young Kimball, and I am thrilled to be the next President of the Minnesota Homeownership Center!
I’m proud to have served as a board member of the Center for the past six years. In my role on the Center’s board, I contributed to our exciting wins including $150 million in first-generation homebuyer down payment funds, the launch of the Advancing Black Homeownership special purpose credit program, and reform proposals aimed at protecting consumers in dealing with Homeowner Associations across the state. I hope these investments will make a meaningful difference to reducing our state’s homeownership disparities, and I’m committed to their successful launch and expansion.
I believe every person should have access to a healthy home of their choice, and my career has revolved around this belief from the start. Some of the work I’m most proud of includes the creation and launch of a perpetually affordable housing program in Minneapolis to make homeownership accessible to people with incomes below $60,000, opening up development opportunities to women- and BIPOC-led developers in both Minneapolis and Saint Paul, and working in partnership with community members to build ‘missing middle’ housing developments of 2-20 units. I began my career on Payne Avenue at the East Side Neighborhood Development Company building and repairing homes to support East Side community members. Coming back to Payne Avenue after all these years to work at the Center is like coming back to my roots!
In my free time I like to do my own home improvement projects, both big and small (really, I do!). I spend lots of time outside with my partner and two kids biking, camping, swimming and hiking. I also make or enjoy art in all its forms.
I’m excited to have the opportunity to branch out and work with affordable homeownership stakeholders across our state. Together, we’ll develop the next strategic plan for the Center, and we’ll build on our strengths to promote inclusive investments in a fair economy in Minnesota.
